• Abbey marks Wyatt bicentenary

  A wreathlaying marking the bicentenary of the death of the architect James Wyatt PRA (1746-1813) was held at his grave in Westminster Abbey on Thursday 5th September 2013.

• Abbey loans rare 1588 first edition Welsh Bible to St Davids Cathedral

  A rare 1588 Welsh Bible from Westminster Abbey’s Library collection – the first complete translation of the Bible into the Welsh language – has been loaned to St Davids Cathedral, where it will go on public display for the first time this week.

  James Broughton and his wife Rebecca are buried in the east cloister of Westminster Abbey. On the wall beside is a cartouche with winged demi-angels.

  James II was born on 14th October 1633. His coronation with his queen, Mary of Modena, took place at Westminster Abbey on 23rd April 1685.

  In the Dark cloister area, leading to the Little Cloister, is a wall tablet to James William Dodd. He was buried in the east cloister.

  James Spottiswood, Bishop of Clogher, was born at Calder in Scotland. He is buried in St Benedict's chapel in the Abbey but has no monument.

  Writer James Macpherson is buried in the south transept of Westminster Abbey. His grave adjoins that of fellow Scot Robert Adam.

  James Oswald was buried in the north aisle of the nave in 1769. A small rectangular brass with a decorated border now covers his grave.

  In St Margaret's Church is a tablet in memory of James Rumsey, West Virginia, inventor, who was buried in the churchyard on 24th December 1792.

  James Thomson, poet and playwright, has a memorial in Poets' Corner. It is placed on the wall and was designed by Robert Adam.

  On 17th June 1976 a memorial stone for Henry James, American born novelist, was unveiled in Poets' Corner by his great grand-nephew Alexander James, jr.

  James Harrington, scholar, was buried on the south side of the chancel of St Margaret's but his gravestone was later moved to the north side.

  Sir James Fullerton was buried in the north ambulatory, near the steps leading to Henry VII's chapel. His monument was later erected in St Paul's chapel.

  General James Johnston is buried in the centre part of the nave. Only a small stone now marks his grave, near that of Thomas Telford.

  James Wyatt, architect, is buried in the south transept. He was Surveyor of the Fabric at the Abbey from 1776 to his death.

  James Craggs, MP, is buried in the north aisle of Henry VII's chapel. His monument is now in St George's chapel.

  William James, writer, was buried on 2nd July 1663 in the south aisle of the nave of Westminster Abbey but he has no marker.

  James Rennell, cartographer, is buried in the centre of the nave. His grave is now unmarked but just had his name, death date and age.

  Archbishop James Ussher (or Usher) was born in Dublin in 1581, and his grave is in St Paul's chapel at Westminster Abbey.
