  Statesman

  James Craggs, MP, is buried in the north aisle of Henry VII's chapel. His monument is now in St George's chapel.

  John and Paul Methuen have a joint memorial in the south choir aisle of Westminster Abbey. John was the eldest son of Paul Methuen (d.1667).

  Dame Mary Billing, of Conington, was a benefactor to St Margaret's, giving money towards building the south aisle, and she was buried in the church.

  Prince Edmund "Crouchback", Earl of Lancaster and Aveline de Forz were the first royal couple to be married in the newly built Westminster Abbey. Both are also buried in the church.

  The monument to Henry Carey, 1st Baron Hunsdon (died 1596) is the tallest in Westminster Abbey, at thirty-six feet high. Various members of his family are buried in the Carey vault.

  The grave of Thomas Cochrane, 10th Earl of Dundonald, the famous admiral, is in the central part of the nave of Westminster Abbey.

  In the south ambulatory is a monument of black and white marble, with an oval recess in which is a bust, to Richard Tufton.

  Thomas May, writer and historian, was buried in the south transept. When Charles II was restored, May's body was buried in St Margaret's churchyard.

  John Beverley, valet or yeoman to Edward III, was buried in the south ambulatory of Westminster Abbey near the king's tomb. His mother was Matilda.

  On a pillar in the north ambulatory of Westminster Abbey is a marble tablet to the memory of Lieutenant General Sir James Oughton.

  Admiral Sir Charles Saunders was buried in the lower Islip chapel, Westminster Abbey. He served with General Wolfe in Canada.

  Several children of the Howard family, Earls of Carlisle, are buried in St John the Baptist's chapel. Their names are inscribed on a marble stone.

• Sir James Leith

  Soldier

  Sir James Leith, army officer, is buried in the centre part of the nave. He died of yellow fever in Barbados on 16th October 1816.
