  • 60th anniversary of the end of World War II

    A Service of Prayer and Thanksgiving to mark 60 years since the end of the Second World War was held at Westminster Abbey on Sunday 10th July 2005.

    At 5.00pm on July 10th the bells of Westminster Abbey led churches throughout the country in a celebratory peal.

    On Monday 4th July at 5.00 pm the Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall, will preside at a Sung Eucharist in Westminster Abbey to mark the 40th anniversary of his ordination as a priest.

  • Free entry to the Abbey for NHS staff as summer visiting hours are announced

    Friday, 25th June 2021

    NHS staff will be able to visit Westminster Abbey for free from July onwards. The gesture to NHS staff is an acknowledgment of all their hard work during the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

    Reopening areas of the Abbey From July The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Galleries will reopen after being closed since last year.

  • Abbey opens to visitors after longest closure since 1953 Coronation

    Visitors will be welcomed back to Westminster Abbey on 11th July, after closure due to the coronavirus pandemic – the longest period of time it has been closed to visitors since the coronation.

    The Abbey opened for private prayer on 15th June and began public worship again on Sunday 5th July.
