  Westminster Abbey has launched a free online resource designed to help schools and families explore Christianity through ten treasures from the Abbey collection.

• Sir Thomas Lovell

  Politician, Philanthropist and Lawyer

  A bronze relief of Sir Thomas Lovell, Chancellor of the Exchequer, who died in 1524, is on display in the new Abbey Galleries . The artist was Pietro Torrigiano.

• John, 1st Viscount Welles

  Soldier

  John Welles, 1st Viscount Welles, K.G. was buried in Westminster Abbey and early tomb lists give the location as the old lady Chapel.

  Writer, Poet and Playwright

  John Skelton, Court poet, writer and playwright, was buried in the chancel of St Margaret's on 21st June 1529. He has no monument or inscription.

  Kitchener was Secretary of State for War but died in 1916. A memorial service was held in the Abbey on 13th June 1916.

  The ashes of architect and stained glass designer Sir John Ninian Comper are buried in the north aisle of the nave of Westminster Abbey.

• Henry VII and Elizabeth of York

  Henry VII’s coronation took place in October 1485. He and his wife Elizabeth were the first monarchs to be buried in the Abbey’s Lady Chapel.

• Henry Carey, Lord Hunsdon & Family

  Soldier and Statesman

  The monument to Henry Carey, 1st Baron Hunsdon (died 1596) is the tallest in Westminster Abbey, at thirty-six feet high. Various members of his family are buried in the Carey vault.

• Elizabeth II

  Queen Elizabeth II's coronation was held at Westminster Abbey on 2nd June 1953. Her wedding to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, took place in 1947. Her funeral was held on 19th September 2022.

  On 8th May 1945, Winston Churchill announced that the Second World War in Europe at an end. This was VE Day or Victory in Europe Day.

• John Smith

  John Smith, his daughter Anne, Countess of Clanricarde and grandson the Hon. John Burke are buried in the nave of Westminster Abbey.

  James Craggs, MP, is buried in the north aisle of Henry VII's chapel. His monument is now in St George's chapel.

  Robert Townson (or Tounson) was buried just outside the chapel of St Edmund in Westminster Abbey but he never had a monument or inscribed gravestone.

  In the chapel of St Nicholas in Westminster Abbey is an altar tomb chest of Purbeck marble to Nicholas, Baron Carew.

  Roger de Quincy, Earl of Winchester, constable of Scotland, was a benefactor to the building of Henry III's new Gothic Westminster Abbey, begun in 1245.

  The Chisholm family were generous benefactors to the Westminster Abbey restoration appeal. Plaques for various benefactors line the stairway up to the Lady Chapel.

  Edward Woodroofe was a mason and surveyor at Westminster Abbey. He was buried in the north cloister.

• Thomas Whitby

  Thomas Whitby, of Hounslow in Middlesex, was buried in the south ambulatory on 25th January 1622 but he has no monument or marker.
