Westminster Abbey's Annual Civic Service was held on Sunday 7 July 2013
The Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall, welcomed The Lord Mayor of Westminster and Deputy High Steward of the Abbey, Councillor Sarah Richardson, and other City of Westminster councillors to Westminster Abbey for the Civic Service on Sunday 7th July.
Prayers were led by the Reverend Dr James Hawkey, Minor Canon and Sacrist of Westminster and were said by the Venerable Dr Jane Hedges, Canon of Westminster.

Abbey Marks Shakespeare Anniversary

James Hawkey installed as Canon Theologian

The Reverend Dr James Hawkey was installed as a Canon of Westminster during Evensong at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 19th January 2019.
During the service, the Reverend Jane Sinclair, Canon in Residence, read Leviticus 16: 11-22, and the Dean read Hebrews 10: 19–25.

Thomas Waldron
Physician
Dr Thomas Waldron, physician in ordinary to Charles II, was buried in the cloisters of Westminster Abbey on 14th February 1677.
Their children were Timothy, Henry, Thomas, Agnes, Jane and Elizabeth.

John Rutherford
John Rutherford died on 21st June 1781 and was removed from his original burial place at Olne in Germany to the north cloister for burial.
He was the only son of John Rutherford, who originally came from Kelso in Scotland and then moved to London, and his wife Jane (Kerr).

John Henderson, actor, is buried at the foot of the grave of David Garrick in the south transept. The inscription has now worn away

On the west wall of St Margaret's church Westminster is an oval tablet to musician and organist James Nares who was buried nearby.
His first wife was Jane Pease, and his second Jane Bacon and they had four children including Robert.

Richard James
Writer, Poet and Priest/Minister
The Reverend Richard James, antiquary, historian, linguist and poet, was buried in St Margaret's Church Westminster on 8th December 1638 but he has no marker or memorial.
His brother John was a merchant and his sisters were Averen and Jane.

William Bent and family
On the north wall of St Margaret's Westminster is a tablet to William Bent and family. Much of the inscription is now illegible.
It reads: In the churchyard near this spot was deposited the remnants of Jane Bent died 16th Nov.

Arctic explorer's memorial unveiled

A memorial to the Orkney-born Arctic explorer Dr John Rae (1813-1893) was dedicated in the Chapel of St John the Evangelist, Westminster Abbey on Tuesday 30th September 2014.
A wreath was laid by Mary Davey and flowers were laid by Jane Hamilton.

Ellis Wynn
Ellis Wynn, or Wynne, was buried in the south ambulatory of Westminster Abbey on 29th September 1623 but he has no monument or marker.
He was the third son of Maurice Wynn, Member of Parliament, of Gwydir in Wales, and Jane daughter of Sir Richard Bulkeley.

A Sung Eucharist to mark the 40th Anniversary of the Ordination to the Priesthood of the Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall, was held at Westminster Abbey on Monday 4th July.
The Prayers of Intercession were led by the Reverend Jane Sinclair, Canon Steward.

The Duke of Sussex opens the 90th Field of Remembrance
His Royal Highness The Duke of Sussex opened the Royal British Legion's 90th Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey on Thursday 8th November 2018.

Richard Cox, D.D. was Dean of Westminster from 1549-1553 but he has no memorial at the Abbey and is buried at Ely Cathedral.

Soldier
General Staats Long Morris is probably the only American buried in Westminster Abbey. His grave is in the north aisle of the nave.
Only the marker for his wife Jane is now visible and there is no monument to him.

John Nedham (Needham), Receiver General of Westminster Abbey, and members of his family are buried in the nave of the Abbey but none have markers.
His wife was Jane, daughter of Samuel Gabrey of Lambeth.

Sir John Puckering, Speaker of the House of Commons, is buried in St Paul's chapel. His large monument shows effigies of him and his wife.
