    TRH The Duke and Duchess of Sussex opened the 91st Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey on Thursday 7th November.

    The graves of Esther de la Tour de Gouvernet, her mother and grandmother are in the north ambulatory. The gravestone inscription was re-cut in 1997.

    The ashes of Rudyard Kipling, poet and writer, were buried in Poets' Corner at noon on 23rd January 1936. His books include The Jungle Book.

    Musician

    Gervase Price, musician, and his wife Martha are buried in the north aisle of the nave, not far from the grave of Ben Jonson.

  • Ernest Rutherford

    Scientist and Physicist

    The ashes of the physicist Ernest, 1st Baron Rutherford of Nelson were interred in the nave, near to the graves of Newton and Lord Kelvin.

  • William Sterndale Bennett

    Composer and Musician

    Composer Sir William Sterndale Bennett is buried in the north choir aisle, not far from the graves of Henry Purcell and Sir Charles Villiers Stanford.

  • Muzio Clementi

    Musician and Composer

    The Italian musician Muzio Clementi is buried in the south cloister of the Abbey. The directors of the Philharmonic Society requested his burial here.

  • Sir Joseph John Thomson

    Scientist and Physicist

    The ashes of physicist Sir Joseph John Thomson lie in the nave near the graves of Newton and Rutherford. Interment took place during his funeral.

  • Mary and Adria Lucy

    Mary and Adria Lucy, wife and daughter respectively of Edward Lucy, are buried in the north aisle of the nave of Westminster Abbey.

    In the north choir aisle is a white marble memorial to James Prescott Joule, physicist. He was born in Salford near Manchester.

    On the wall of Poets' Corner, near Shakespeare's memorial, is a mural monument with bust to poet Robert Southey. The sculptor was Henry Weekes.

    In the north transept of Westminster Abbey are the graves of Sir Thomas Nevill and his wife Sarah, and their daughter Anne Elford.

    On 12th April 2000 a memorial stone was unveiled in the Royal Air Force Chapel to Air Commodore Sir Frank Whittle, O.M., K.B.E., C.B.

    Wednesday, 25th April 2018

    Evensong on Tuesday 24th April 2018 was followed by the burial of the ashes of the Very Reverend Dr Wesley Carr KCVO, who was Dean of Westminster from 1997 to 2006.
