  • Festival of Saint Cecilia service held at Westminster Abbey

    The Festival of St Cecilia service was held at Westminster Abbey on Wednesday 24th November 2010. The choirs of Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s Cathedral and Westminster Cathedral came together to sing the premiere of an anthem specially commissioned by the Musicians Benevolent Fund with the help of the RVW Trust: ‘Vast Ocean of Light’, by Jonathan Dove.

    A rare 1588 Welsh Bible from Westminster Abbey’s Library collection – the first complete translation of the Bible into the Welsh language – has been loaned to St Davids Cathedral, where it will go on public display for the first time this week.

  • New research explores medieval Westminster's holy relics

    Westminster Abbey is the burial place of Edward the Confessor, England's best-known royal saint. His body lies in a magnificent shrine at the heart of the Abbey as its major relic. But the medieval Abbey was also home to many other relics - the physical remains of saints, venerated by worshippers and pilgrims. These relics came to Westminster from across Europe and the Holy Land throughout the Middle Ages and were kept in sacred spaces around the church.

    The Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall, was installed as an Honorary Canon of Chichester Cathedral at Evensong on Saturday 20th January 2018.
