    St Margaret’s Church, affectionately known as the ‘parish church of the House of Commons’, and the church where Winston Churchill married his beloved Clemmie in September 1908 has launched a £2 million appeal to fund essential works to repair its roof, external walls and bell tower.

  • George Wylde

    Politician

    George Wylde, politician is buried in the north ambulatory, near the entrance to St Paul's chapel. The stone is rather damaged and has been re-cut.

  • George Green

    Scientist, Mathematician and Physicist

    A memorial for George Green, mathematician and physicist, was unveiled in the nave in July 1993, adjoining the graves of Isaac Newton and Lord Kelvin.

  • George V

    King George V was crowned in Westminster Abbey on 22nd June 1911. He supported proposals for the burial of the Unknown Warrior in the Abbey.

  • George IV

    George IV's coronation in the Abbey in 1821 was a pageant that cost £230,000. A crown containing over 12,000 diamonds was specially made.

  • George Sparrow

    In St Margaret's is a memorial tablet to George Sparrow, Government agent, and members of his family. Unfortunately this is now hidden behind the organ.

  • George Jay

    Priest/Minister

    The Reverend Dr George Jay, Dean Designate of Peterborough, was buried in the south transept of Westminster Abbey on 5th November 1661.
