• Charles II

  Charles' coronation took place on 23rd April 1661. He was buried in the Abbey on 14th February 1685 in a vault in Henry VII's chapel.

  Richard I's coronation took place in the Abbey on 3rd September 1189 and is the first for which a detailed account exists, describing the ritual.

  Richard de Ware was Abbot of Westminster from 1258-1283 and is buried beneath the Cosmati pavement, in front of the High Altar of Westminster Abbey.

  James II was born on 14th October 1633. His coronation with his queen, Mary of Modena, took place at Westminster Abbey on 23rd April 1685.

• Mary II

  Mary and her husband William III were crowned as joint monarchs in 1689. A coronation chair was specially made for Mary's use. Their wax effigies can also be seen.

• Elizabeth II

  Queen Elizabeth II's coronation was held at Westminster Abbey on 2nd June 1953. Her wedding to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, took place in 1947. Her funeral was held on 19th September 2022.
