    Scientist, Mathematician and Physicist

    In the north choir aisle is a bronze roundel by Sir Hamo Thorneycroft to the memory of George Gabriel Stokes, physicist and mathematician.

    Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, patron of the United Kingdom Antarctic Heritage Trust, accompanied by Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence KCVO CB, attended a Centenary Service of Thanksgiving for the Courage and Endurance of the polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton CVO and his Men at Westminster Abbey at Noon on Friday 20th May 2016.

    George Stradling and his wife Margaret are buried in the north aisle of the nave of Westminster Abbey but only Margaret's small stone is visible.

    The Dean of Westminster, The Very Reverend Dr Wesley Carr welcomed President Bush and Mrs George W Bush to Westminster Abbey today and invited him to lay a wreath on the Grave of the Unknown Warrior.

  • George Pollock

    Soldier

    Sir George Pollock, army officer, was buried in the nave, to the west of Lord Clyde. He was the fifth son of David Pollock.

  • George Green

    Scientist, Mathematician and Physicist

    A memorial for George Green, mathematician and physicist, was unveiled in the nave in July 1993, adjoining the graves of Isaac Newton and Lord Kelvin.

  • George IV

    George IV's coronation in the Abbey in 1821 was a pageant that cost £230,000. A crown containing over 12,000 diamonds was specially made.

  • George VI

    The coronation of George VI and Queen Elizabeth was held at Westminster Abbey on 12th May 1937. They married at the Abbey on 26th April 1923.

  • George Stepney

    Diplomat

    George Stepney, diplomat, is buried in Westminster Abbey. He has a large monument of marble in the south choir aisle not far from his grave.

    In St George's chapel in Westminster Abbey is a two light stained glass window to the memory of poets George Herbert and William Cowper.

    Priest/Minister

    The Reverend Dr George Darell, Canon of Westminster 1607-1631, is buried in the south aisle of the nave but has no monument or readable gravestone.

    George Burden, Receiver General of Westminster Abbey from 1577 to his death in 1593, was buried in the north transept but he has no monument.
