Robert Hooke, Engineer and Scientist, to have Abbey memorial

The Dean of Westminster, Dr Wesley Carr, announced tonight that, seventeenth century English scientist and architect, Robert Hooke is to be memorialised in Westminster Abbey on the tercentenary of his death.

About the Lamentations
In the 16th century, the English composer Thomas Tallis set five verses of the Biblical book of Lamentations to music. This exquisite, mournful pair of motets remains a beloved musical choice for ensembles and churches around the world. During Holy Week, when Christians remember Jesus Christ's suffering and death, the Lamentations are often sung in Tenebrae services or on Good Friday. The grief expressed in the Lamentations gives voice to our sorrow as we remember Christ's passion.

New Abbey Choir CD celebrates neglected Tudor composer

Conducted by James O’Donnell, who also plays the organ interludes on the disc, Missa Videte miraculum is a compelling introduction to the work of early Tudor composer Nicholas Ludford (c. 1485 – c. 1557).
