• Dean takes High Tea on Henry’s roof

  The Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall took tea on the roof of Westminster Abbey on the morning of Wednesday 20th May to help promote London to UK and overseas visitors. ‘High Tea’ took place on the roof of the Henry VII Chapel as part of Visit London’s ongoing ‘Only in London’ campaign.

• Mayors of the London Boroughs attend Evensong

  Evensong to celebrate the Feast of the Dedication of Westminster Abbey was held in the presence of the Lord Mayor of Westminster and the Mayors of the London Boroughs, together with members of the Greater London Lieutenancy, on Sunday 20th October 2024.

• Henry VIII

  The coronation of Henry VIII and Katherine of Aragon took place in the Abbey on 24th June 1509. He is buried at Windsor.

  Lawyer

  Henry Elsynge (Elsyng), clerk of the House of Commons, was buried in St Margaret's Westminster but has no marker.

  Henry VI was crowned in Westminster Abbey in 1429 aged 8. He has a modern statue in the Lady Chapel.

  Henry Grattan, a statesman and defender of the rights of Ireland, was buried next to Charles James Fox in the north transept of Westminster Abbey.

  Henry I’s coronation took place at Westminster Abbey on 5th August 1100. He married Princess Matilda of Scotland at Westminster Abbey on 11th November 1100.

  Henry III rebuilt Westminster Abbey from 1245 and has a large tomb with an effigy in St Edward's chapel.

• Henry IV

  Henry was born in April 1366 and was crowned on 13th October 1399. He died in a room at Westminster Abbey called the Jerusalem Chamber.

  Henry Ireton, Parliamentary official and son in law of Oliver Cromwell, was buried in Henry VII's chapel in Westminster Abbey but later exhumed.

  Henry Francis Cary, translator of Dante's Divina Commedia into English is buried in Poets' Corner in Westminster Abbey, not far from Shakespeare's memorial.

• Sir Henry (Brodribb) Irving

  Actor

  The ashes of Sir Henry Irving, actor, lie in Poets' Corner. John Henry Brodribb (1838-1905) assumed the surname of Irving by royal licence in 1889.

  St Margaret's south aisle is a small tablet to soldier Louis Henry Bedford. His name is also inscribed on the Crimea and Indian Mutiny column.
