    A Service of Thanksgiving for the Life of Rear-Admiral Kenneth Snow CB, Receiver General of Westminster Abbey between 1987 and 1998, and the Interment of Ashes in the Cloisters, was held at the Abbey on Saturday 17th March 2012.

    Sailors marked the 300th anniversary of the death of the Royal Navy hero Sir Cloudesley Shovell with a wreathlaying ceremony conducted by Canon Nicholas Sagovsky at Admiral Shovell’s grave in the Abbey’s south choir aisle this week.

    In the south choir aisle, above the door into the cloister, is a memorial to Rear Admiral John Harrison. It consists of three quatrefoil panels.

  • William Forbes

    In the north transept is the grave of William Forbes. The arms carved on the stone are quarterly Forbes with Preston of Formantine.

    On 11th October 1949 the Baptist Missionary Society gave a carved English walnut lectern to Westminster Abbey in memory of William Carey, missionary in India.

  • William Blair

    In the north transept is a monument known as The Three Captains memorial. It commemorates Navy captains William Bayne, William Blair and Lord Robert Manners.
