The Reverend Canon David Stanton installed as a Canon of Westminster

At the Installation the Receiver General of the Abbey, Sir Stephen Lamport KCVO DL, presented and read The Queen’s Grant and Mandamus in the presence of the Dean & Chapter of Westminster and the Collegiate body.

Canon Stanton read the Latin Declaration and was led to his vacant stall in the Quire of the Abbey Church by the Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall.

During the service the Venerable Dr Jane Hedges read Zechariah 8: 14-end and Canon Stanton read John 20: 19-end.

The sermon was given by the Dean.

The service was sung by the Choir of Westminster Abbey conducted by James O’Donnell, the Organist and Master of the Choristers. The organ was played by the Sub Organist Daniel Cook.

Canon Stanton was Canon Precentor and Pastor at Worcester Cathedral. He will become Canon Treasurer and Almoner of Westminster Abbey, succeeding the Reverend Canon Dr Robert Reiss who retired in the summer.

The service was attended by the Dean and Chapter of Worcester, members of the congregation of Worcester Cathedral and many friends and associates of Canon Stanton, in addition to members of the Abbey’s collegiate body and members of the public.

Following the service, Canon Stanton was installed at his place in Chapter within the Jerusalem Chamber.

There really isn’t a more spectacular building to work on. It’s been one of the most gratifying and rewarding experiences of my life.
