London Mayors Attend Evensong

Evensong to celebrate the Feast of the Dedication of Westminster Abbey was held in the presence of the Lord Mayor of Westminster and the Mayors of the London Boroughs, together with members of the Greater London Lieutenancy, on Sunday 19th October 2014.

The London Mayors' Association was welcomed to the Abbey by the Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall.

The Venerable Andrew Tremlett, Sub-Dean and Rector of St Margaret's, gave the sermon.

Sir David Brewer CMG JP, Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London, read Jeremiah 7: 1-11 and the Lord Mayor of Westminster, Councillor Audrey Lewis, read St Luke 19: 29-end.

The service was sung by the Choir of Westminster Abbey conducted by James O'Donnell, Organist and Master of the Choristers, and the organ was played by Daniel Cook, Sub-Organist. The organ was played before the service by Jeremy Woodside, Organ Scholar.

The biggest challenge we face is actually time – getting all our work done alongside the daily routine of the Abbey as a working church, visitor attraction and home to 1,000 years of history.
