Evensong marks Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting

Evensong marking the 25th Meeting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government was held at Westminster Abbey on Sunday 15th April.

The welcome was given by the Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall, who also pronounced the blessing. Among the congregation were heads of government and High Commissioners from some of the 53 Commonwealth nations.

The sermon was preached by The Most Reverend and Right Honourable Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, Primate of All England and Metropolitan.

The Reverend Anthony Ball, Canon in Residence, read Ruth 1: 1-18; and The Right Honourable The Baroness Scotland of Asthal QC, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, read St Luke 16: 19-end.

The service was sung by the Westminster Abbey Special Service Choir, conducted by Matthew Jorysz, Assistant Organist. The organ was played by Benjamin Cunningham, Organ Scholar.

The biennial meeting of the heads of government from the Commonwealth nations is taking place in London and Windsor from 16th - 20th April.
