Abbey Choir Reveals Life Behind The Scenes

The Abbey held its first 'Chorister Experience' on Saturday 21st May. Thirteen boys, aged 6 to 10, attended the event which was designed to give an insight into the life of an Abbey chorister.

The experience included rehearsing with the Abbey Choir, a special tour, afternoon tea, getting kitted up in choir robes, learning how to process through the Abbey and taking part in Choral Evensong, standing in the choir stalls, alongside the Abbey Choir. It was a big event for all the boys involved and the Abbey hopes to welcome some of the boys back as choristers.

The Westminster Abbey Choir School educates and cares for 30 boys who sing as choristers in the Abbey Choir. The Abbey is always looking for musical boys who love singing to join its ranks.

The biggest challenge we face is maintaining such a large physical collection of material within a historic building – believe it or not, there’s just not enough space for it all.
