Tour: Memorials and Memory
Who is buried here and why? Take a fresh look at the Abbey as an evolving place of national memory on this thought-provoking guided tour.
Explore the role of national memory at Westminster Abbey , a building that is filled with beautifully designed memorial stones, windows and sculptures. With over 3,000 people buried and remembered in Westminster Abbey, each memorial tells a story about the past and how their legacy impacts our perceptions of British history in the present.
On this 75-minute tour, you’ll stop at a mix of famous and lesser-known memorials from the last 1,000 years, walking through some of the Abbey’s most atmospheric spaces including:
- The Cloisters, medieval corridors heaving with memorials old and new

Poets’ Corner, where creative minds are remembered

The Lady Chapel, a Tudor burial place for monarchs
- The Nave, including a space known as Scientists’ Corner

Ticketing information
There is a maximum of 15 people per tour. This tour is 60 minutes long.
This tour will take you through Westminster Abbey and it will conclude at the end of the visitor route.
This event does not include self-guided entry to Westminster Abbey. If you'd like to also book a self-guided ticket, we recommend looking at the Visit us pages to plan a visit during opening hours.

Meeting location
This event will meet by the Cloister Entrance to Westminster Abbey in Dean's Yard.
Access and security
Please have your ticket ready to show our staff (either printed or on your mobile phone).
On your arrival, your bag will be searched and we ask you not to bring any large items with you (for example suitcases, large backpacks or folding bicycles) as these will not be allowed inside and we are unable to store them for you.
The Abbey has uneven floors and parts of the tour may only be accessible up a flight of steps.
