Sir Kenneth Warren service
A Service of Thanksgiving for the life and work of Sir Kenneth Warren will be held in St Margaret's Church, Westminster Abbey on Thursday 30th January 2020 at 12.00pm.
Educated at Aldenham School, Midsomer Norton Grammar School, King's College London, the London School of Economics and attaining the honour of a Fulbright scholarship to the United States in 1949, Sir Kenneth Warren was to rise through the ranks of the Conservative Party, serving Hastings, and later Hastings and Rye as their MP for over 20 years.
A devoted supporter of Margaret Thatcher, Sir Kenneth demonstrated unique talents earlier in life as a superb basketball player, to the point of taking part for his country in the Olympics. He was also a skilled mountaineer, making the ascent of Kilimanjaro and many other peaks and stopping short of Everest only because he ran out of time! Sir Kenneth was later renowned as a brilliant Aeronautical engineer, showing a shrewdness in skills which came into their own most particularly when he served as Chairman on the Trade and Industry Select Committee.
Kenneth was remembered fondly for his great sense of humour, his renowned conviviality, and his memorable regaling of amusing stories amongst friends. Following his retirement from Parliament, Sir Kenneth became President of the 119-year old charity, the Winkle Club based in Hastings Old Town.
