    Charles Abbot, 1st Baron Colchester was buried in the north transept of Westminster Abbey in an unmarked grave with his mother Sarah.

    Dr Robert Henry Charles was Canon of Westminster from 1913 and Archdeacon from 1919 and is buried with his wife in the north cloister.

    Charles Fitzroy, Duke of Cleveland, Duke and Earl of Southampton, Earl of Chichester, Baron of Newbury and Nonsuch, Knight of the Garter, buried 1730.

    The ashes of Sir Charles Peers are buried in the Islip chapel. He was Surveyor of the Fabric at the Abbey from 1935 to 1951.

    The Reverend Charles Wellington Furse, Canon and Archdeacon, is buried in the east cloister. He was a son of Charles William Johnson of Great Torrington.

    Soldier and Airman

    In the Lady Chapel is a sword purchased by Officers of the Order of the Bath from a bequest left by Sir Charles Longcroft.

  • Charles Fitzcharles, Earl of Plymouth

    Charles Fitzcharles, Earl of Plymouth was buried on 18th January 1681 (modern dating) in the vault in Henry VII's chapel formerly occupied by Oliver Cromwell.

    Former choristers of St Margaret's church Westminster who died in the two world wars are commemorated by brass plaques in the church.

    In the south transept is the grave of George James Riddell and his stepmother Dame Sarah Riddell. It adjoins the grave of Robert Adam.

    In the north transept are three statues commemorating George Canning, Prime Minister, his son Charles John, Earl Canning, and George’s cousin Stratford Canning.

  • Charles St Clare Bedford

    Charles St Clare Bedford, Chapter Clerk at Westminster Abbey 1854-1900 and Coroner for the City of Westminster 1845-1888, is buried in the north cloister.

  • Charles Whitworth, Baron of Galway

    Charles Whitworth, Baron of Galway, diplomat, died on 23rd October and was buried on 6th November 1725 in the south choir aisle of Westminster Abbey.

  • Charles Hamilton, Earl of Selkirk

    Soldier

    Charles Hamilton (formerly Douglas) Earl of Selkirk and Baron Daer and Shortcleuch, was buried in April 1739 in the vault of the Duke of Buckingham.

  • Defenders' Memorial

    Soldier, Airman and Sailor

    In the south cloister is a plain square memorial commemorating all those in the service of the Crown who died defending freedom and peace.

    The Ukrainian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Vadym Prystaiko, was present for the wreath laying in honour of the victims of the current war in Ukraine.
