New Year's Honours

Peter Bottomley MP, the Parliamentary Warden of St Margaret’s Church, Westminster Abbey, was knighted in the New Year’s Honours List.
Sir Peter took over from Lord Boswell as Parliamentary Warden in December last year.

Philanthropist, Statesman and Writer
In the chapel of St George, near the west door, is a joint memorial to Henry Fawcett, politician, and his wife Dame Millicent Garrett Fawcett.
...the age of 24, he became PROFESSOR of POLITICAL ECONOMY in the UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE, MEMBER OF FOUR PARLIAMENTS and from 1880 to 1884 H.M.POSTMASTER GENERAL.

James and Mary Kendall

James Kendall and his niece Mary are buried in Westminster Abbey. James Kendall, politician and governor of Barbados, is buried in the south choir aisle.
He was first chosen a Member of Parliament in the year 1684, and serv'd in most of the succeeding Parliaments.

Sir Hugh Pollard
Politician and Soldier
Politician and Royalist army officer Sir Hugh Pollard, 2nd Baronet of King's Nympton, Devon, died in 1666 and was buried in Westminster Abbey but the location is not known and he has no marker.
He was Member of Parliament for Bere Alston.

Richard Warburton, descended from the ancient family of Warburton, was buried in the south cloister on 29th October 1771, but he has no readable gravestone.
He was the eldest son of Richard Warburton of King's County in Ireland, Member of Parliament for Portarlington, and his wife Elizabeth (Pigott).

John Pym, politician in the time of Cromwell, died in 1643. He was buried in Westminster Abbey but his remains were exhumed at the Restoration.
John Pym, politician and leader of the popular party in the Long Parliament, died at Derby House in Westminster on 8th December 1643.

Sir Robert Howard, poet, dramatist and historian, and Sir Thomas Howard, created Earl of Berkshire, are buried in the chapel of St John the Baptist.
He was a Member of Parliament and travelled abroad.

The Honourable Rebecca Folliott was buried in the north ambulatory on 9th September 1697. She was a daughter of Henry, Lord Folliott of Ballyshannon, Ireland.

Sir Charles Rich, naval captain, was buried in St Margaret's Church Westminster in 1706 but has no memorial.

Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Gloucester attended a Service at Westminster Abbey on Wednesday 30th March 2011 to mark the 40th anniversary of the coming into effect of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act (1970).
It became an Act of Parliament in 1970.

Sir Edward Rogers

Sir Edward Rogers, Comptroller of the Household of Elizabeth I, was buried in St John the Evangelist's chapel in Westminster Abbey.
By 1534 Edward was Esquire of the Body to Henry VIII and later was Member of Parliament for Somerset.

In St Margaret's Church Westminster, at the west end of the north aisle, is a monument to Sir Richard Corbet, 2nd Baronet of Leighton.
In 1653 he succeeded his grandfather to the title and was a Fellow of the Royal Society and Member of Parliament for Shrewsbury.

At the east end of the south cloister is a monument to Thomas Master. Thomas attended Westminster School in the Abbey precincts, where he died.
1742 His grandfather, Sir Streynsham Master, was governor of Madras and his father was a Member of Parliament, of Codnor Castle in Derbyshire.

Sir James Berners
Politician
Sir James Berners, Knight of the Chamber to Richard II, was buried in St John the Baptist's chapel. No inscription or monument was recorded.
He served in campaigns in Brittany and became knight of the chamber, owning many estates in Essex and elsewhere, and Member of Parliament for Surrey.
