  Sermon given at the Festival Eucharist in the National Pilgrimage to the Shrine of St Edward the Confessor: When in 2007 we came to refurbish the shrine of Hereford’s own saint, Thomas.

  Charles St Clare Bedford, Chapter Clerk at Westminster Abbey 1854-1900 and Coroner for the City of Westminster 1845-1888, is buried in the north cloister.

• Louis Henry Bedford

  Soldier

  St Margaret's south aisle is a small tablet to soldier Louis Henry Bedford. His name is also inscribed on the Crimea and Indian Mutiny column.

  On the west wall of St Margaret's church Westminster is a small marble tablet to Captain Francis Elliot. Military emblems are shown at the top.

  A memorial statue to Francis Horner stands in the west aisle of the north transept of Westminster Abbey. The sculptor was Sir Francis Chantry.

  Francis Coghlan, Irish lawyer, was buried in the north cloister of Westminster Abbey but has no marker.

  Francis Hughes, well known opera singer of his day, was buried on 21st March 1744 in the west cloister but has no marker.

  In St Margaret's Church, on the north wall, is a monument to Francis Egioke, near his grave. It consists of a kneeling figure in armour.

  Representations of St George and his dragon can be seen in Westminster Abbey on Henry VIIs tomb and grille, in the Lady Chapel statue series, in stained glass windows to the YMCA and Sir Benjamin Baker in the nave, and in the window in St Benedicts chapel.

  In the west cloister are two white marble tablets to the Reverend Edward Smedley and his son Francis, but neither are buried at the Abbey.

  Francis, Baron Cottington of Hanworth, and his wife Anne, have monuments in the chapel of St Paul. He was twice ambassador to Spain.

  The St Margaret’s Choristers made history on Wednesday 8th May when they sang Evensong in Westminster Abbey for the first time.

  Francis Beaumont, poet and dramatist, and his brother Sir John Beaumont are both buried in Poets' Corner, at the entrance to St Benedict's chapel.
