BSL Tour: Curious tales from the Abbey
British Sign Language guide Edward Richards uncovers unusual stories on this special tour of Westminster Abbey.
On this fascinating tour of Westminster Abbey, uncover the colourful lives and unusual fates of some of the thousands of people buried and remembered here. Among the many surprising tales, you’ll meet the man who claimed to be 152 years old when he died and discover why the playwright Ben Jonson was buried standing upright. These unexpected and unconventional stories reveal a very different side to the Abbey’s history.
This tour will be led by British Sign Language guide Edward Richards and is suitable for British Sign Language users and learners.
British Sign Language is a visual spatial language. It involves a combination of hand shapes, facial expressions, lip patterns and body language.
This tour is open to both BSL users and those studying BSL.

There is a maximum of 15 people per tour.
This tour will last for approximately 60 minutes.

This event will meet by the Cloister Entrance to Westminster Abbey in Dean's Yard.Access and security

On your arrival, your bag will be searched, and we ask you not to bring any large items with you (for example suitcases, large backpacks or folding bicycles) as these will not be allowed inside and we are unable to store them for you.
