Anne Radcliffe

Anne Radcliffe (or Ratcliffe), wife of Sir George Radcliffe, lawyer and politician of Thomhill in Yorkshire, was buried in the north choir aisle of Westminster Abbey. Her gravestone inscription has now worn away. This was in Latin and can be translated:

Here lies Anne Radcliffe, wife of Sir George Radcliffe Kt. daughter of Sir Francis Trappes Kt. of the county of York. She died 1659 on the 13 day of May aged 58 years

Her mother was Mary Atkinson and she married George at St Anne and St Agnes church in London in February 1622. Their only son Thomas died unmarried. George himself died a political exile at Flushing in Holland in 1657 where he is buried.
