Charles Fitzcharles, Earl of Plymouth

Charles Fitzcharles, Earl of Plymouth was buried in Westminster Abbey on 18th January 1681 (modern dating) in the vault in Henry VII's chapel formerly occupied by Oliver Cromwell. He has no monument or gravestone.

He was probably born in Bruges about 1657, an illegitimate son of Charles II by Catherine Pegge. After education abroad he came to London in 1672. He was created Baron Dartmouth, Viscount Totnes and finally Earl of Plymouth in 1675. In 1678 he married privately Lady Bridget Osborne. He served in the army and went to Tangiers to fight against the Moors. He died there due to drinking contaminated water on 17th October 1680. As he had no children his title became extinct.
