• Westminster Abbey joins nation to mark 80th anniversary of VE Day

  A service to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (VE Day) will take place at Westminster Abbey on Thursday 8th May 2025.

  Mary Tudor was the daughter of Henry VIII and Katherine of Aragon. She was crowned in the Abbey on 1st October 1553 and lies buried with Elizabeth I.

  Nicholas Clagett, Bishop of Exeter, was buried at St Margaret's Westminster in 1746 but he has no gravestone or memorial.

  Henry I’s coronation took place at Westminster Abbey on 5th August 1100. He married Princess Matilda of Scotland at Westminster Abbey on 11th November 1100.

  The Reverend Professor Vernon White, who has been Canon Theologian of Westminster Abbey since June 2011 and a Visiting Professor at King’s College London, is to retire at the end of September 2018.

  A service to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the birth of St Maximilian Kolbe was held at Westminster Abbey on Sunday 13th January 2019.

• Elizabeth II

  Queen Elizabeth II's coronation was held at Westminster Abbey on 2nd June 1953. Her wedding to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, took place in 1947. Her funeral was held on 19th September 2022.
