Westminster Abbey Choir

Audiences around the world can enjoy an evening of the finest choral music from the comfort of their own homes with an online, on demand performance by the Abbey Choir.

The concert, entitled ‘Faire is the heaven: masterpieces of cathedral music’, was filmed live in the Abbey in July in the presence of a small, socially-distanced audience, and was the first public performance the Abbey Choir had been able to give for over 18 months owing to coronavirus restrictions.

The programme takes its name from the closing anthem by William Harris and is a celebration of the richness and variety of the cathedral choral tradition, featuring works by composers including Mendelssohn, Bruckner, Brahms, Stanford, Parry and Jonathan Dove.

Tickets to view the concert can be purchased now, with the recording available to watch on demand until Sunday 24 October. Proceeds will go towards the Abbey’s Heritage Preservation Appeal, set up in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic to help protect the three key areas of greatest need: conservation of the Abbey building, care of its Collections, and the Choir and Choir School.

About the Choir

The Abbey Choir is renowned worldwide as one of the finest ensembles of its type, its repertoire extending from plainsong and Renaissance polyphony to twentieth-century masterpieces and new commissions. In addition to singing the daily services, as it has done since the fourteenth century, the Choir plays a central role in the many royal and state occasions which are held in the Abbey, as well as reaching a wider audience through its programme of broadcasts, recordings and international tours.
