Archbishop Angaelos leads annual Day of Prayer 2023

His Eminence Archbishop Angaelos, the Coptic Orthodox Archbishop of London will lead the annual Day of Prayer at Westminster Abbey in St Margaret’s Church on Saturday 28th January.

During the Day of Prayer, which is now in its 34th year, Archbishop Angaelos will offer three reflections on Jesus’ invitation, “Come to Me”:

  • I will give you life
  • I will give you hope
  • I will give you rest

How to attend

It will take place from 10.00 am – 2.45 pm and all are welcome to join Evening Prayer in the Abbey at 3.00 pm. Tickets are free.

For those unable to attend in person, the Day of Prayer will be streamed live on the Abbey’s YouTube channel and a recording will be made available afterwards on the St Margaret’s page of the Abbey website.

About Archbishop Angaelos

His Eminence Archbishop Angaelos is the first Coptic Orthodox Archbishop of London, having served in the UK since 1995 as a monk-priest and General Bishop, and is the official representative in the UK of the His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of Saint Mark. After consecration as a monk in the Monastery of St Bishoy in Wadi-El-Natroun (Egypt) he served as a private secretary to the late (Coptic Orthodox) Pope Shenouda III until coming to the UK. Archbishop Angaelos has been conferred the Lambeth Cross for Ecumenism by the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Coventry Cross of Nails for Reconciliation as well as having his ‘Services to International Religious Freedom’ recognised with the award of an OBE. Among other roles, His Eminence is President of Bible Society and Chairman of the Christian broadcaster SAT-7. He has been the Orthodox President of Churches Together in England (CTE) and Moderator of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland (CTBI) and currently co-chairs the Anglican-Oriental Orthodox International Commission.
