A podcast for Passion Sunday

Worshippers everywhere are invited to mark Passion Sunday today with the Abbey’s latest podcast.

The thirteen-minute recording made this week by the Abbey’s resident community who are in isolation has a reading, short address, anthem, prayers and blessing.

The Dean of Westminster, The Very Reverend Dr David Hoyle said:

We step closer to Holy Week and the Cross. In the calendar of the church this Sunday marks the beginning of ‘Passiontide’. This podcast touches on some sombre themes, but I hope it might help you enter more deeply into the story the church tells and explore how even our necessary isolation must one day end.

Introduced by the Abbey’s Minor Canon and Sacrist, The Reverend Mark Birch, it has a reading of John 11: 17-44 by Megan Huntly, an address by the Dean and anthem Hear my Prayer by Henry Purcell sung by the Abbey Choir, conducted by James O’Donnell, supplied by Hyperion Records.

It is the second podcast recorded at the Abbey this week with everyone involved observing social distancing. It was edited and posted by Abbey staff off-site.
