Henry Priestman

In the nave of Westminster Abbey is a memorial to Henry Priestman who died in 1712 aged 65, but he is not buried here. The monument of black and white marble is by sculptor Francis Bird. Naval trophies and a large anchor are depicted and above on the pyramid is a medallion head with the inscription "Henry Priestman Esquire". The main inscription reads;

To the memory of Henry Priestman Esqr. Commander in Chief of a squadron of ships of war in the reigne of King Charles the IId a Commissioner of the Navy and one of the Commissioners for executing the office of Lord High Admiral of England in the reigne of King William IIId. Ob. [died] XX Aug. MDCCXII, Aet [aged] LXV. Heu Prisca Fides

It is not known where he was buried.
