Channel 5 is to screen a major new six-part documentary series bringing viewers behind the scenes at Westminster Abbey.
Programme-makers have spent much of this year at the Abbey filming the series, Westminster Abbey: Behind Closed Doors, which begins at 8:00pm on Thursday 22nd September and continues weekly. Filming was completed before the death and State Funeral of HM Queen Elizabeth II earlier this month.
The Abbey is one of the world's great churches, and has been at the heart of our national life for more than a thousand years. The series introduces viewers to the people who live and work in this extraordinary place, from the clergy who maintain the Abbey's centuries-long tradition of worship, to members of its world-famous Choir and the dedicated teams of skilled staff who care for the historic buildings.
Each hour-long episode focusses on aspects of the Abbey's daily life, including the meticulous preparations for services, and the welcome offered to the many thousands of visitors who come to explore this World Heritage Site each year.
It’s a privilege to live and work here – the Abbey really is the heart of the country and its history.
