HRH The Princess Royal reads for St Peter’s Day podcast

Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal has recorded a gospel reading for Abbeycast, the Abbey’s worship podcast series, which is released today for St Peter’s Day, Monday 29th June.

Saint Peter is the patron saint of Westminster Abbey, formally known as the Collegiate Church of Saint Peter in Westminster. The Abbey would usually be celebrating the Feast Day with a Festal Eucharist. Her Royal Highness reads Matthew 16: 13–19.

The Abbey began producing podcasts at the start of lockdown with the first episode on Sunday 25th March. Since then over 20 episodes have been made by the Abbey’s clergy with special guests contributing readings each week. Previous guests have included HRH The Prince of Wales, HRH The Countess of Wessex and the Prime Minister of New Zealand, The Right Honourable Jacinda Ardern, MP.

The podcast was recorded by the Abbey’s clergy in the Sacrarium in front of the statue of St Peter by the High Altar. It is led by The Reverend Canon Dr James Hawkey, Canon Theologian, with an Address by The Very Reverend Dr David Hoyle, Dean of Westminster.

Palestrina’s Tu es Petrus sung by the Abbey Choir and conducted by James O’Donnell, Organist and Master of the Choristers, is supplied by the Choir’s record label, Hyperion Records.
