Colonial Territories Memorial

In the south cloister of Westminster Abbey is a polished grey marble tablet in memory of those who served in the Colonial Territories. At the top is the Royal achievement of arms and the inscription reads:

To all those who served the Crown in the Colonial Territories. The memorial was unveiled by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 23 March 1966. Whosoever will be chief among you let him be your servant.

The memorial was moved higher on the wall in 2003 in order to accommodate a new memorial below it. The section about the unveiling had originally been on a separate piece of marble but, with the permission of the monarch, the words were inscribed below the Royal arms.
