Acworth family

In the north cloister of Westminster Abbey is the grave of Abraham Acworth, his wife and two sons. He lived in the parish of St John Westminster and was an official in the Exchequer office and bequeathed a share of the Victualling office at Chatham in Kent to his widow. His wife was Margaretta daughter of Anthony Buckeridge and his wife Ann (who married secondly Edmund Ball, a paymaster of the Exchequer). Son Buckeridge lived in Great Queen Street Westminster and was governor and treasurer of many charitable institutions, who died unmarried. The stone, in the centre part of this walk of the cloister, reads:

Abrm. Holmes Acworth Gent. died 28 Nov 1773 aged 21 years. Abraham Acworth Esqr. died 4 April 1781 aged 61 years. Margaretta Mabella Acworth died 15 April 1794 aged 67. Buckeridge Ball Acworth son of the above named Abm. and M.M. Acworth died 15 August 1818 aged 71 years.
