Christopher Sutton

Dr Christopher Sutton was a prebendary (clergyman) at Westminster Abbey from 1605 until his death in May or June 1629. His burial does not appear in the Abbey registers but John Dart in his book published in 1723 says Dr Sutton was buried "before the door going into the vestry" which at that time was in part of the south transept. He came from Hampshire and attended Oxford university. From 1598 he was vicar at Rainham in Essex and was rector of several other parishes including Easton in Norfolk. He was known for his "florid and excellent" preaching and he published several tracts on divinity. He was also prebendary at Lincoln from 1618.
