The tours, workshops and events listed below are suitable for EYFS, Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2 classes, and focus on different aspects of history covered by the National Curriculum.

Monks in the Monastery

Workshop for KS2 students

Find out about the lives of the medieval monks of Westminster and make a pomander to chase away city smells and plague germs.

Cost: £5 per pupil (includes a tour of the Abbey)
Recommended start times: 10.00am and 12:45pm


Local History

Workshop for KS2 students

Using maps and local buildings, discover how Westminster Abbey once stood on an island and trace its development into the church at the heart of the nation.

Abbey Through Time

Discover the stories of the Unknown Warrior and the Blitz to evaluate the impact of war and its remembrance at Westminster Abbey.

Edward the Confessor

Come and hear stories about the founder of Westminster Abbey, England's royal Anglo-Saxon saint and, visit his Shrine.

Kings, Queens and Coronations

Tour for KS1 and KS2 students

Become a monarch for the day and find out about the coronations of some of Britain's most famous kings and queens.

Shakespeare's Kings

Tour for KS2 students

Visit Shakespeare’s memorial, listen to his royal stories and get up close to where those kings and queens are buried.

1066: The Year of 3 Kings

7th - 8th June 2018

Event for KS2 students

Anglo-Saxon King Edward the Confessor has just died and England is entering a period of turmoil. Join a Saxon lord as he searches his heart to choose who to follow in the ensuing months, and tour the Abbey to learn about Edward’s death and the coronation of William Duke of Normandy.

Cost: £5 per pupil


At different times of the day, or in different seasons, the light falling in the Abbey will light up something that you have walked past a million times and never seen before.
