It costs over £14 million a year to maintain the Abbey, and we do not receive any funding from the Church, the Crown, or the Government. The drastic reduction to our income caused by the Covid pandemic is putting our priceless heritage at risk. So for the first time on over 60 years, we are launching a public appeal to ask for your support.
The Abbey is almost completely reliant on income from tourism to cover its running costs and day-to-day maintenance. In the current climate, no visitors means no income. It is vital that this historic building, its collections and music heritage are protected for future generations.
