The grey and gold organ pipes in Westminster Abbey

Westminster Abbey is welcoming applications for its next Organist and Master of the Choristers.

The Abbey is the place of Coronation, a site of gathering for nations and Commonwealth, a house of memory and memorial and an iconic destination for pilgrims and visitors. It’s first priority, daily worship, sustained for over a millennium, shapes its distinctive witness to faith at the heart of the nation, and music plays a prominent and vital role in all aspects of worshipping life, including great State Occasions.

Under the leadership of James O'Donnell over the last twenty-two years, the Abbey has built a consistent and unparalleled reputation both nationally and internationally for musical excellence. The Abbey has long been a beacon of the English choral tradition, and it is now seeking to appoint an Organist and Master of the Choristers to sustain that priceless legacy and develop it to meet the needs of the coming decades.

The Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr David Hoyle said:

The Abbey is a glorious place, and extraordinary things happen here. We believe that great opportunities and fascinating challenges lie ahead for our next music director. We hope to meet exceptionally talented candidates, who bring with them a sense of excitement that we can share and a commitment to be with us as we shape the future in the power of God’s grace.

The closing date for applications is Monday 13th June at noon and the appointment will begin on 1st January 2023.
