Dialogue: Christmas and the Qur’an
Join us for a dialogue about what Christmas means to both Muslims and Christians.
On the Eve of the Feast of the Epiphany in the Western tradition, the holy day celebrated on the 12th day after Christmas, and as Christians following the Eastern tradition prepare to celebrate Christmas, three international scholars will reflect on a familiar and profound story. The story of Christmas is shared by two faiths which have often been at odds with one another, with the accounts given by the evangelists Luke and Matthew finding their parallels in Surahs 3 and 19 of the Qur’an which take up the Annunciation to Mary and the Nativity.
After an introduction by Professor Karl-Josef Kuschel, author of Christmas and the Qur’an, responses will be offered by the Reverend Canon Dr James Walters, founding director of the LSE Faith Centre, and Imam Dr Muhammed Gamal Abdelnour, Faculty Member at Al-Azhar University, Cairo.
