Robert Priest

Dr Robert Priest was buried (as Doctor Priest) in St Margaret's church Westminster on 5th June 1596 but he has no gravestone or memorial. He was born around 1550 and educated at Peterhouse, Cambridge from 1567. In 1578 he was licensed to practice medicine and became an MD in 1580. Two years later he became a member of the London College of Physicians. Publisher John Norton originally commissioned him to translate into English Rembert Dodoen's Stirpium Historiae Pemptades sex but he died before it could be published. The manuscript prepared by Priest is said to have formed the foundation of John Gerard's famous Herball, 1597. His widow was Catherine.

His will is at the Westminster City Archives.
