Lady Essex Robartes

Lady Essex Robartes was buried in the chapel of St John the Evangelist at Westminster Abbey on 14th January 1727 but she has no monument or gravestone. She was a daughter of Robert Robartes, Viscount Bodwin (son of the 1st Earl of Radnor) and his wife Sarah (Bodvile). Her father died about 1681 and her mother was buried at Chelsea church.

Her sister Isabella married John Legh and their eldest daughter Elizabeth Legh was buried on 20th August 1734 aged 39 near Lady Essex.

Lady Ann Robartes, wife of the Hon. Francis Robartes, Member of Parliament, son of John, 1st Earl Radnor, had been buried in the same chapel on 15th May 1715, so perhaps Lady Essex wished to be buried near her. Ann was the only daughter of Wentworth, 17th Earl of Kildare and Lady Elizabeth Holles and her first husband was Hugh Boscawen.

An earlier Lady Essex Robartes married John Speccott, M.P. of Egloskerry in Cornwall in the Abbey on 9th April 1689. She was a daughter of John Robartes, 1st Earl of Radnor and his wife Letitia. She died within three weeks of her marriage.
