A podcast for Ash Wednesday

Today’s episode of Abbeycast, A podcast for Ash Wednesday, was recorded this week in the Florence Nightingale Chapel in Westminster Abbey.

The podcast is led by the Reverend Dr James Hawkey, Canon Theologian, with an address by the Very Reverend Dr David Hoyle, Dean of Westminster. Janet Hoyle reads Isaiah 58: 1-12.

William Walton’s, Kyrie eleison (from Missa Brevis), sung by the Abbey Choir and conducted by James O’Donnell, Organist and Master of the Choristers, is supplied by the Choir’s record label, Hyperion. The organ music, William Bryd’s Miserere, and JS Bach’s Erbarm’ dich mein, O herre Gott and Aus tiefer Not, schrei ich zu dir, were specially recorded earlier in the week by Matthew Jorysz, Assistant Organist.

Episodes of Abbeycast are being released to mark Feast Days and special anniversaries. Those wanting to be kept up to date with new releases can subscribe.

During this lockdown period, the Abbey remains open for worship. Please check our service times page for details, and for information about how to visit us safely.
