A Podcast for the Feast of the Annunciation

Today’s episode of Abbeycast, A podcast for the Feast of the Annunciation, was recorded this week in the Abbey’s magnificent Chapter House.

The podcast is led by the Reverend Mark Birch, Minor Canon and Precentor, with an address by the Reverend Dr James Hawkey, Canon Theologian. Sarah Clarke OBE, Lady Usher of the Black Rod, reads Luke 1: 26-38.

John Taverner’s Mater Christi sanctissima, sung by the Abbey Choir and conducted by James O’Donnell, Organist and Master of the Choristers, is supplied by the Choir’s record label, Hyperion. The organ music, Marcel Dupré’s Ave Maris Stella from Le tombeau de Titelouze, Léon Boëllmann’s Prière à Notre Dame from Suite Gothique, and JS Bach’s Fuga sopra il Magnificat BWV 733, were specially recorded earlier in the week by Charles Maxtone-Smith, Organ Scholar.

Episodes of Abbeycast are being released to mark Feast Days and special anniversaries. Those wanting to be kept up to date with new releases can subscribe.

During this lockdown period, the Abbey remains open for worship. Please check our service times page for details, and for information about how to visit us safely.
