Abbey staff honoured for role in The Late Queen’s funeral

The Reverend Mark Birch, Minor Canon and Precentor, was awarded the MVO (Member of the Royal Victorian Order). He has been a Minor Canon at Westminster Abbey since January 2015 and was responsible for drafting the Order of Service and leading on the ceremonial aspects of the funeral.

As Precentor he is responsible to the Dean of Westminster for the daily worshipping life of the Abbey, and for designing and planning many of the special services which characterise its unique life.

Lorraine Rossdale, Head of Events and Marketing since 2012, was also awarded the MVO. She worked with the Lord Chamberlain’s Office at Buckingham Palace to co-ordinate the logistics and planning on the day.

As Head of Events and Marketing at the Abbey, Lorraine is responsible for the administration which underpins many special events and major events, as well as the marketing of the Abbey as an international visitor attraction.

Martin Castledine, the Dean's Verger, was awarded the Royal Victorian Medal. He played a key part in the ceremonial procession at the start and end of the service. He was also responsible for supporting the Dean who officiated at the funeral.

He has been at the Abbey since 2003 and is responsible for a team of eight vergers who assist the clergy in daily worship.
