United States Donors

In St Margaret's church Westminster is a tablet recording the names of American benefactors who gave generously to the Appeal by Speaker of the House of Commons, Bernard Weatherill, for the restoration of this church. The tablet is on the south wall and has been moved slightly from its original position. It was unveiled by Speaker Weatherill on 23rd June 1993 in the presence of the United States Ambassador. The inscription reads:

The restoration of this church was made possible by the Appeal 1984-1992 of Mr Speaker Weatherill and was aided by generous gifts from friends throughout the United States of America. The United States Council of the Speaker's Appeal, under the chairmanship of Sir Gordon White, KBE, received more than six hundred contributions from corporations, associations and private individuals, among whom were: The Honorable Walter H. Annenberg, Mr Albert Broccoli OBE, Mrs Dana Broccoli, Mr Armand Hammer, Mr Jack Hausman, Mr John Kluge, The Honorable John L. Loeb Jnr, the Honorable John J. Louis Jnr, Mr Marshall Naify, The Baron Enrico di Portanova, Mr Walter E. Schoenfeld, Mr Danny Schwartz, Mr Frank Sinatra, Mr John Tigrett.
