Thomas Seymour

At the south east end of St Margaret's church Westminster is a large marble monument, possibly by sculptor Epiphanius Evesham, to Thomas Seymour and his wife Isabel. The two figures kneel under arches, facing each other, the man in armour, with Corinthian columns either side and a cherub head below. A large achievement arms is above.

The inscription is below the figures, being re-painted under Isabel's figure as the original is rather faint:

Here in peace resteth ye bodyes of Thomas Seymour, second sone to ye right honourable Edward, Earle of Hartford [Hertford], and Esable his wife, eldest daughter to Edward Onley of Katesby [Catesby] in ye county of Northampton Esq[uire], wh[ich] said Thomas departed this mortall life ye eight day of August 1600 & ye said Esable ye twen[tie]th day of August 1619 in ye true faith of Jesus Christ & in ye blesse hope of a joyfull resurection.

His mother was Lady Katherine Grey, sister of Lady Jane Grey. His brother was Edward Seymour, Lord Beauchamp. The Earl had a house in Canon Row, Westminster, not far from St Margaret's.
