Abbey receives support from the Cathedral Music Trust

The Cathedral Music Trust has made a generous donation to Westminster Abbey, funding its Assistant Organist post for a year.

Jonathan Macdonald, Chairman-Elect of the Cathedral Music Trust presented the grant to the Abbey's Dean, the Very Reverend Dr David Hoyle, after Evensong on Tuesday 14th June 2022.

Thanking the Trust for the grant, the Dean said:

The Cathedral Music Trust exists to support the pursuit of excellence. This is not excellence for its own sake, it is the excellence that we should offer back to the God who gives us good things. In giving us this welcome grant, they sustain the excellence of the music we make for God and give encouragement to our organists and to us all. We are very grateful and promise that we will commit to the challenge, that is implicit here, to give of our best.

This is the second grant the Abbey has received from the Cathedral Music Trust. In 2020, the group awarded the Abbey £20,000 through the Cathedral Choirs’ Emergency Fund, supporting the return of choral services at the Abbey after the first coronavirus lockdown. It was the first time a Trust grant had been extended to a Royal Peculiar.
