New Lord Mayor welcomed by Abbey

Matins, attended in Civic State by the Lord Mayor of Westminster, Councillor Ian Adams, and Councillors of the City of Westminster, was held at Westminster Abbey on Sunday 2nd July.

The Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall, gave the Welcome and pronounced the Blessing.

The Address was given by the Lord Mayor's Chaplain, The Reverend Steve Mason.

The leader of Westminster City Council, Cllr Nickie Aiken, read Deuteronomy 15: 7 - 11, and the Lord Mayor read Galatians 3: 23 - 29.

Prayers were led by The Reverend Mark Birch, Minor Canon and Sacrist, and said by Victoria Tate, Douglas Traill-Stevenson, Michelle Curran, Deborah Griffies, Andrew Käser, and the Reverend Jane Sinclair, Canon in Residence.

The service was sung by the Choir of Westminster Abbey conducted by the Organist and Master of the Choristers, James O'Donnell. The organ was played by Daniel Cook, Sub-Organist. Music before the service was played by Matthew Jorysz, Assistant Organist.

A collection was taken for The Lord Mayor's charities: the Social Mobility Foundation's Westminster Initiative, and Age UK Westminster.
