Lord Spicer service
A Service of Thanksgiving for the life and work of The Rt Hon the Lord Spicer will be held in St Margaret’s Church, Westminster Abbey at Noon on Thursday 21st November 2019.
Educated at Wellington College and later to read Economics at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, Michael Spicer was to rise through the ranks of the Conservative Party, later becoming the Chairman of the 1922 Committee and Vice Chairman of the Conservative Party, where he was to be remembered for the excellent record of having a hand in the elections of three notable Conservative leaders, The Rt Hon Iain Duncan Smith, The Rt Hon Michael Howard and the Rt Hon David Cameron. Lord Spicer was a Minister in the Department of Transport and also later, a Minister in the Department of Energy, Housing and Planning. Lord Spicer's keen interest in politics was only part of his multi-faceted life. A talented tennis player, novelist, diarist, artist and family man, Michael was a gentleman who made many friends during his time as a financial journalist in Fleet St, in the Commons and later in the Lords and most certainly in his home county of Worcestershire, a seat he served for over 30 years.
