The Dedication of a Memorial to President Nelson Mandela

Westminster Abbey is to dedicate a memorial stone to Nelson Mandela on 18th July 2018, the centenary of the birth of the former President of the Republic of South Africa.

A Service of Thanksgiving for the Life of Nelson Mandela was held at the Abbey on 3rd March 2014 and now a ledger stone in the central aisle of the nave of the church will commemorate him.

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born on 18th July 1918 in the village of Mvezo in Umata. He was the country's first black head of state and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election.

The dedication of the memorial stone will take place at 3:00pm on Wednesday 18th July.


A limited number of tickets (free) are available to members of the public. Please apply via Eventbrite.
